SILVER TO GOLD NETWORKING

I recently presented a seminar on ‘networking’ to the AIM Young Professionals Group as part of my business ambassador role with AIM SA.

Here are five of the ten tips I discussed at the seminar:

1. Be yourself and give of yourself.

2. Successful networkers listen - give 100% of your attention when communicating.

3. Give without expecting in return.

4. People do business with people they like and trust. Networking is about building win/win relationships for the long term.

5. Always reward and recognise - acknowledge and thank people for their referrals.

ACTIVE NETWORKING

A great way to stay active if you are a busy person is to incorporate 'Active Networking' into your schedule. Here are five tips on 'Active Networking' by Sue Sheppard Performance Coach and Personal Trainer - Beyond Potential (sue@beyondpotential.com.au).

Walking Meetings: Instead of meeting in an office, go for a walk. The fresh air and activity will
be beneficial and you may come up with some great ideas by simply meeting in a different environment. Grab your coffee “to go” and walk and talk.

Group Activities: If you're looking for something different to drinks and canapés, why not
organize a fun group activity. Physical activity in a group setting, whether it's a gentle walk or
hike, games day or boot camp, is a great way to learn more about your colleagues and contacts
and build great relationships too.

Groups and Clubs: If you usually exercise on your own, why not join a club or group with a similar interest? Many successful people make physical activity part of their day in order to sustain their energy levels and achieve optimal performance - the person training or working out next to you just might be the person you need to connect with.

Team Challenge: Organize or participate in a corporate team challenge. Whether it's a particular sport or just a one-off Sports Day or Tug of War between companies within a similar (or different) industry, a team challenge is a great way to meet new people in an environment of fun and excitement.

In conjunction with Healthy Teams we provide tailored, outcome based and fun team challenges and group activities.
